A downloadable game for Windows

My submission for the #WeeklyGameJam 119!

The theme was Tamagotchi.

CONTROLS: WASD to move

OPEN INVENTORY :  I

INTERACT : E     (Works for spellbooks, picking up apples)

The goal of the game is to raise your Dragon. You have to make him level up.

As he is more and more hungry and thirsty, he will gain less experience.

So you have to feed him with apples from the tree of life. But be carefull as your Dragon will demande more and more experience to level up.

He gets bigger every 10 levels.

To help you, you can buy upgrades that will give you specials stats.

But everything has a cost .. in the world of Sanctuary, we pay with Gems.

Don't forget to explore Sanctuary, as a lot of secret are waiting for you.

I built all the assets from scratch (Mesh, Textures, Sounds, Particles).

The only assets that were sourced are :

The ambiant wind sound, the gem icon, the chorus ambiant sound.

Hope you'll like the game, tell me how big got your dragon ! :D

I like the idea and general execution of the idea in this game. I also really enjoy the way it looks.

Some things that bothered me:

  • If I fall off the cliff, there is no way that I know of other than restarting to get back up. I'm not sure if this was intentional because no game over notification or anything popped up.
  • When buying the apples from the tree, it wasn't immediately obvious to me that they were spawning on the ground.
  • I could use the apples to feed the dragon without being near the dragon, I personally think it would be better if I could only feed them while right next to the dragon.
  • When pressing the Escape key in an attempt to open the menu, it exited the game.
  • The apple cost scaling was a bit sharp in my opinion
  • On my third play-through, my dragon got to level 21 but still hadn't hatched. I don't entirely know if this was intentional but I could have sworn it hatched earlier in my previous play-through.

All of this is just my personal opinion based off my experience with the game. In conclusion I think if a few things were tweaked it could be a fun and addicting game. I also have to restate how much I enjoyed the looks of it, you did really well with that.

Hello!

Thank you so much for reviewing my game! Your remarks are so usefull !

-I completely forget to implement a respawn system when you fall off the island.

-I will find a way to make apples spawning more obvious (with a notification system, or rework the thing completely).

-I got the same feedback yesterday from a friend, about the fact that it would be better if you could only feed the dragon while near to him. I agree and i will change this.

-About the apple scaling, i also agree. I also need to balance some upgrades. The goal was to have 1 upgrade available from the start at low cost but its effects would not be worth the gems at a certain level (ex lvl 15). Then i would have liked to have a second upgrade available that would be more cost worthy and help you until its not worth the gems at lvl 30 for example. Then introduce the 3rd upgrade and so on..

-About the hatching bug, this should have not happenned and im not sure yet why this hapenned to you as i never got a similar bug.

Again thank you very much, your ideas will help me a lot!

Hope to see you when i'll upload a new version!
